Young, dynamic, strong – the Coesfeld district as a business location

Diverse sector mix with good transport connections

There are many reasons why the Coesfeld district is a good place to set up or develop a business. One of them is the good transport connections. Three motorways, including the A1 as one of the most important north-south axes in Europe, lead directly to the sales markets in western and northern Germany and the Netherlands. The Dortmund-Ems Canal, Münster-Osnabrück (FMO) and Dortmund (DTM) airports and connections to long-distance rail transport via Münster or Dortmund provide further excellent links to the national and international transport network.

Education, research, skilled labour

Just like goods, knowledge is also transported over short distances in the Coesfeld district. For example, at the Institute for Sustainable Value Creation (INW) Coesfeld in cooperation with Münster University of Applied Sciences or at the Coesfeld Regional Centre of the Distance Learning University of Hagen. In many cases, the companies also work intensively and successfully with the universities in the wider region in Münster, Gelsenkirchen, Dortmund, Bochum or Enschede. And the three vocational colleges in the Coesfeld district – Oswald-von-Nell-Breuning-Berufskolleg, Pictorius Berufskolleg and Richard-von-Weizsäcker-Berufskolleg – have specifically tailored their programmes to the requirements of the regional economy. Because the location has developed dynamically not only in economic terms, but also from a demographic point of view, the proportion of young population groups is relatively high and, according to a forecast by IT.NRW, only a slight overall decline in population is to be expected in the future, the Coesfeld district offers good prospects for attracting skilled labour in the future. This is another reason why a culture of self-employment has developed here: The self-employment rate has been well above the national average for years.

Innovative strength, medium-sized companies, industry diversity

Of the many good reasons that speak in favour of the Coesfeld district as a business location, three are particularly noteworthy: The innovative strength of the companies, the economic structure, which is strongly characterised by medium-sized companies, and the wide variety of sectors. The combination of these factors has led to the location becoming strong and resilient in difficult economic times. This benefits everyone who lives in the region: For years, the district of Coesfeld has had the lowest unemployment rate of all districts and independent cities in North Rhine-Westphalia.

The Coesfeld district as a business location is embedded and deeply networked in the Münsterland economic region. There are also connections to the neighbouring Ruhr region.
